How To Contol Your Time

Tell me, do you know a student that waits until the 11th hour...midnight
the night before an essay or project is due and then they race the clock
to complete their task ? Maybe one lives in your home...maybe you have
a similar pattern of behavior.

There are many scenarios like this with students and many other people.
Unfortunately, this practice often leads to results that are below average.

This type of scenario and many others like it happen for one reason.
The reason is poor
time management.

Here are a few tips on how to improve your time management skills
and avoid these types of scheduling headaches.

Make lists early and often to become an expert at time management.

Lists that will be available to you for reference can be recorded
anywhere.
Studies prove the more one makes lists the more likely
they are to complete the task(s) in a logical manner.

Plus, lists can provide you with a realistic look at your workload.
Often, people will put more on their plate then they can handle.

We often need to see things all together on one comprehensive list
to understand the magnitude of all that we are looking to accomplish.

If you create detailed lists you will be able to budget your time.
This way you can carry out your assignments without the typical
last minute hassle, like with the example of the student.

When you prepare your list, be decisive and make sure to include
everything.
Prepare your list category by category to make sure that
nothing gets left off the list.

For example, if you are making a "To do" list..make sure that the laundry
and dishes or the check writing, etc. makes it onto the list. This way you
will be sure to budget your time to do those tasks as well.

Once the list is created, make a potential schedule to execute
the tasks on the list. If you have a small list it might just
take a few minutes to complete. Larger lists can take days,
months or even years.
So, have a plan in place well in advance.

Keep your appointments to avoid any scheduling delays. The more
you put off appointments the harder they can be to reschedule.

If you are a busy person, like most of us, you have a lot of daily
commitments. If you miss appointments you create more pressure on
your other appointments.

To make matters worse, if you miss multiple appointments you may
wind up doubling your schedule. Unfortunately, this usually does NOT
yield good results...this is NOT good time management. So, be sure
to keep appointments at all costs.

If you can make lists, and keep appointments your time management
skills will increase greatly. Keep in mind, if you master your time
management skills
...your time will be much more valuable and available.

To your continued success,

Marc
